People from a variety of organizations involved in helping stock food banks are gathering over the next three days to brainstorm how they can improve the system.
The Regional Food Bank Distribution Association brought public health officials, charities, food banks, remote communities, airlines and others together to talk about how they can do away with food banks and still ensure people have access to food.
RFDA Executive Director Volker Kromm feels hunger, community wellness and poverty are not just the responsibility of charities; that everyone needs to step up and find solutions to the problem.
Kromm hopes at the end of their brainstorming session, they will have some tangible solutions to ensure everyone has access to food.
Gladys Berringer is the Executive Director of Our Kids Count and tells us the session is useful.
“Sometimes, we feel like we are spinning our wheels, and the [poverty] problem doesn’t seem to be going away. Having all these great minds in the same room at the same time to look for solutions is a fantastic opportunity.”
