Kenora MP Examines Affordable Housing

The federal government continues to look for community partners to address housing shortages in the Kenora district.

Bob Nault made the comments following a tour of the new home for single-Indigenous mothers in Dryden; ‘The Homeward Bound Housing Project’.

The housing project received a federal investment of $1.19-million.

Nault says “if we don’t participate, it will be harder for our partners, whether it’s the provinces, municipalities or non-profit organizations, to achieve their goals.

He notes that’s why they’ve developed a ten year, $40-billion program dedicated to housing.

The total federal investment on housing projects in Dryden is over $1.6-million.

Nault stresses the bottom line is every northerner needs a safe place to call home.

He says “it’s become pretty clear in our region that the police forces themselves, they’re talking about the costs of managing social issues in the communities and one way to get around that is to move away from people being homeless or having to couch surf.”
