Is Thunder Bay Open For Business?

This week on Thunder Bay Votes: Is Thunder Bay open for business?

Diane Petryna is a local business owner in the city and has clear ideas on what she’d like to see the candidates debate during this election campaign.

Number one is the lack of population growth and thereby a lack of new young workers in the market.

She points out as baby boomers retire “there aren’t qualified people” to take over many of the positions which have been left vacant.

The local business owner thinks the shrinking workforce is stopping lots of work from getting done.

Petryna believes we have to work to keep young people from leaving our city and contributing to a stagnant population by trying aggressively to promote Thunder Bay as a great place to live, work and invest.

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
