An Olympic gold medalist guarantees there will be a place to play hockey for national team members now that the Canadian Women’s Hockey League has folded.
Thunder Bay’s Haley Irwin appears confident there can be another league since there needs to be a place for women in the country to play hockey on a professional level saying “we’re going to continue to fight to have a league to play in…what that league is named and what it looks like is still on hold.”
Irwin does not think “anyone involved in women’s hockey…is going to allow there not (to) be a league next year.”
The Olympian calls the demise of the Canadian Women’s Hockey League heartbreaking.
While there’s talk of the National Women’s Hockey League in the U.S. coming to Canada, Irwin notes there have been no negotiations between that league and the former Canadian teams in Toronto and Montreal.
