Indigenous Cultural Traditions Club’s Annual Powwow returns

Lakehead University’s Indigenous Cultural Traditions Club’s annual Powwow is back for year 35.

The event showcases talent and entertainment with traditional aspects of Indigenous culture such as drumming, dancing, singing, and giving thanks.

This year the Powwow is featuring Walking Bear as the host drum.

Indigenous arts and crafts vendors will also be on hand.

A warm-up is taking place on Friday night from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

The action for the main event gets underway on Saturday and Sunday at noon.

The Powwow is free and is open to the public and all are encouraged to attend.

Support from Lakehead University, OpenText, Matawa Jordan’s Principle, Matawa Next Steps, and other community partners helped make the event happen.

The Indigenous Cultural Traditions Club is a student club at Lakehead University.

Their goal is to promote the spirit of unity among Indigenous students at Lakehead through social, cultural, and recreational events in addition to promoting cultural awareness.
