City Landfill Fees Riles Business Owner

A Thunder Bay business owner is upset the City of Thunder Bay has increased landfill fees.

Junk Away owner Dan Cheal believes the increase of 3 percent is only going to cost the city in the long run because trash will be diverted away to private landfill sites.

“So essentially they’re…willingly conceding hundreds of thousands of dollars in revenue for the city because they won’t make an adjustment,” notes Cheal.

The business owner would like to see the city offer volume discounts for trash disposal saying for that reason “Some of the major players and some of the smaller players are taking their business elsewhere.”

Cheal says it is no surprise to him the owner of the landfill in Lappe wants to double its size.
