An Eighties phenomenon that is still popular to this day is getting the silver screen treatment, although it’s not immediately obvious what the plot would be but I’m sure there will be plenty of twists and turns! Word is a Rubik’s Cube movie is being developed. There aren’t many details yet, but it seems like it’s inspired by the success of The Queen’s Gambit on Netflix, which is based on another pursuit that involves mathematical thinking – Chess! It’s not just a movie, there’s also an accompanying game show rumoured as well.
Invented by Hungarian sculptor and architecture professor Erno Rubik in 1974, around 450 million of the 3-D combination puzzles have been sold around the world. A lot of people consider the Rubik’s Cube to be the best-selling toy in the world.
Since I never had any success in solving mine, and (like a true cheater) the stickers on it are still crooked from me peeling them off and putting them back on, I looked up a tutorial. Check it out courtesy our friends at WIRED, and good luck!
