Hyer Plans To Vote NO

Thunder Bay MP Bruce Hyer is introducing 15 amendments to Bill C-51, the Anti-Terrorism Act.

Hyer and Green Party Leader Elizabeth May brought their ideas forward at a news conference today.

They feel C-51 suffers from poor drafting and their amendments seek to clarify some of the inconsistencies before they end up before the courts.

The Federal Government will propose a handful of amendments to the proposed anti-terror bill when it goes to clause-by-clause review Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government is expected to vote tonight on the Conservative’s plan to extend its military campaign in Iraq for up to one year and move into airstrikes in Syria.

Green Party Deputy Leader Bruce Hyer says he’s voting no because he feels the Prime Minister is rubber stamping US policy and that we are not wanted in Syria.

Hyer says he’s received over 200 emails and 14 calls from his constituents with most supporting a time-limited mission in Iraq only.
