The BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation….it’s like the CBC here at home) has come up with a pretty great idea to keep kids both entertained AND learning during the ‘summer break’ this year. Many kids have lost out on a good chunk of the year because of Covid-19 but they’ve been watching a LOT of TV. So the BBC is bringing a group of celebrities together to host a show called ‘Celebrity Supply Teacher’, which will start airing on their digital platforms (CBBC) June 8th. The neat thing, for me, is that they’ve actually brought on ‘Ginger Spice’ Geri Horner (Halliwell) from the Spice Girls to host a show about creative writing! I had no idea but Ginger has published several children’s books over the last few years and has actually been giving talks about creative writing to kids for a while now! I freely admit, I’ve been a Spice Girls fan for years and I would have loved to have watched this with the kids myself! Sadly, the CBBC content is only available in the U.K. I guess I’m going to have to wait to see if it gets picked up by someone on this side of pond!
I’d be willing to bet that the U.S. launches their own version soon as well. Mind you, it will probably be a game show format with kids voting on the teaching skills of the likes of Sylvester Stallone and Gwenyth Paltrow!
