Thunder Bay’s Regional Hospital is urging residents who have been anywhere outside of Northwestern Ontario to self-isolate for 14 days.
“We’re concerned that while we’ve been free of any COVID-19 at the Hospital, in Toronto and Ottawa there is community spread – and there is constant travel between affected areas and Thunder Bay. Self-isolating for 14 days after any travel outside of Northwestern Ontario is necessary to prevent community spread of COVID-19 in Thunder Bay,” Dr. Stewart Kennedy said.
Kennedy goes on to say if the illness gets into Thunder Bay’s Long Term Care homes, as has happened in British Columbia, it can be disastrous.
The hospital official is asking you to say something to residents you see not following social distancing and self-isolation rules.
Kennedy says everyone needs to work together to help stop the spread of the virus.
The Thunder Bay District Health Unit is suggesting residents stay in their home communities to help reduce the spread of the virus.
“So if you are in Thunder Bay, stay in Thunder Bay,” Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Janet DeMille said.
