Hench: A Novel

I don’t usually do a lot of book reviews here, but I absolutely LOVED this novel.

Hench was written by Natalie Zina Walschots and it takes place in a world where Superheroes and Super Villains rule the land. The main character starts off ‘Henching’ at a Temp Agency and works her way through the ranks of supervillain henchfolk. I’m purposely over simplifying the plotline because I really think you should go and check it out yourself! I will tell you that it’s very funny, engaging, action packed, insightful and incredibly well written. I picked up the book on my day off thinking I would spend a half hour with it and ended up reading the entire thing in one go and spending the entire day with it. I read a lot and can honestly say I don’t remember the last time that happened…likely pre-kids! Hench is also on the Canada Reads 2021 list and after reading it, I can completely understand why!

I grabbed an e-book version for myself but Hench is available in hard and softcover versions as well! If you have a chance, you can likely pick it up at Chapters here in town, or you can order one to your door (and check out a preview) here!

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
