Officials with the Thunder Bay District Health Unit say they are ready to roll out the Comirnaty vaccine to those between the ages of 5 and 11.
The formerly known Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine is under the microscope of Health Canada as they’re reviewing the application submitted by Pfizer Canada.
Medical Officer of Health Dr. Janet DeMille said Thursday, depending on supply, they’ll go back to a familiar location in Thunder Bay for administering the doses.
“We’ll utilize the Coliseum clinic on the CLE Grounds and dedicate a number of days for that particular group,” DeMille mentioned. “The vaccine may also be available through pharmacies and through primary care so that people have a number of options.”
When talking about vaccinating kids, DeMille added she has a team that’s very experienced with that since they do it frequently, so when the time comes they will be ready.
The pediatric data submitted to Health Canada showed a strong and safe immune response from two doses, with the caveat that the doses are a one-third the size given to teens and adults.
