Health Official Supports Extended Lockdown

The region’s top doctor supports the COVID-19 lockdown in the area continuing for two more weeks.

The restrictions were brought in by the Ford government on Boxing Day and were expected to have been lifted on Monday but the Ford government announced it will be extended.

Medical officer of health for the Thunder Bay District Health Unit, Dr. Janet DeMille, calls it a very vulnerable time for the pandemic with numbers going up.

“It’s much easier to control it by putting measures in early than backing off of them too soon or putting those measures in late,” explains DeMille.

She adds “If things get out of control or start getting out of control it’s hard to bring them back to a low level versus implementing those measures early.”

In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
