“GATE LICE” is a fancy name when talking about AIRLINE ETIQUETTE. That’s the term for passengers who prematurely gather around a boarding gate long before their seat zone is called, trying to get on the plane by bending the rules of the boarding process. Please tell me you know what I’m talking about?
Example: you’re seated in Zone 2….but someone in Zone 3 wants to get on before you. AMERICAN AIRLINES just announced it’ll be reinforcing the rules that actually govern the ‘boarding process’. It’s a new scanning system that’ll give an audible alert if someone is trying to board ahead of their designated zone. When the alert is sounded, the gate agent will ask the passenger to step aside and wait until their zone is actually called. That means other passengers will also witness this gentle, maybe embarrassing moment.
This new system is in the test phase at four airports in the U.S, and will look to expand it across the country later this year.
Do you think this should happen with all airlines, including here in Canada?
NOW you know….what GATE LICE is. LOL.
