Gym Founder Remembers Victim Fondly

The 18-year old killed in a south end assault was friends with the founder of a youth gym.

Peter Panetta, of the Underground Gym, and tells us he remembers when Austin Robinson first showed up about ten years ago, then left for a while. “He actually came back when he got a little older, about he was about 15, and started boxing with me again. He brought all his buddies, it was nice to see him come back.” The gym founder adds he was very hurt when hearing what happened to Austin.

The family is also is getting support from the gym as a result of the January 9th incident on Syndicate Avenue. Panetta says he knows Austin’s family, and enough people, to make it happen. “They don’t have any money for a funeral. So, I talked to the girl that set up a GoFundMe page for the Underground, so I’m going to have her set one up for them.”

The Underground Gym founder tells us how easy it is to get attached to the kids, including Austin. “They’re my family, and now I’m taking care of a lot of their kids. Not this particular family, because he didn’t have kids, he was only 18.”
