Green Energy From Boulevard Dam

City council will discuss resuming small scale power production at the Boulevard Lake Dam.

The dam has not had an operating power project since a “mutually agreeable solution” was met to end a 40-year lease agreement in 2019.

The concept of again using the dam as a source of green energy has been brought forward by At-Large Councillor Mark Bentz.

“Resumption will take some investment I’m told so the resolution that is coming will take a cursory at what might be needed at a very high level,” noted Bentz.

The Councillor concluded by saying he believes this to be a beneficial move, but explains there are other factors for council to consider first.

“I’m expecting us to move forward with this, to determine if we can utilize some of that green power there,” says Bentz. “It would certainly add to our goals as a community in terms of green energy. I’m looking to after the refurbishments of the dam to begin production again if it is environmentally and economically feasible.”

Boulevard Dam is currently under construction which is set to end October 31.
