Grandparent scam alive and well

The Thunder Bay Police Service is warning the granparent scam is making the rounds again.

Several local residents say they have been contacted by the fraudsters.

The grandparent scam involves phone calls to potential victims claiming that a family member has been in an accideent or has been arrested.

The caller asks that money is urgently needed.

In some cases police say the scammers will use a voice that sounds like a loved one who is in apparent trouble.

The calls often target the elderly or the vulnerable.

Police are asking family members or friends to talk to anyone who might be a target of such a scam.
