Government Presses Pause Button On Reopenings

Do not expect any further reopenings or the loosening of public heath measures in Ontario for another month at least.

Health Minister Christine Elliott explains the latest trend in COVID-19 numbers in the province has raised some concern so the government is taking action.

As of Tuesday, there were 185 new cases of COVID-19 reported in Ontario the 13th day in a row in which the number has surpassed 100.

Elliott says “Based on the advice from the Chief Medical Officer of Health…we will be taking a pause of four weeks…before considering any further loosening of public health measures or further reopening of business facilities or organizations.”

The provincial health minister notes that business owners in the province have been doing a good job of keeping the public safe but in order to “ensure that the progress we’ve made is not lost. Taking a pause in further reopening at this time will help us to avoid returning to broad-scale closures and shutdowns.”

Elliott adds with school starting this week following public health advice is the best way to help limit the spread of the coronavirus.
