Giant Tiger Has Arrived

The new Giant Tiger discount store in Thunder Bay is going to open its doors Saturday morning at 7 o’clock.

It is located in a 21,000 square foot building in the Thunder Centre complex and sells clothing, food and other merchandise. Manager Chris Kirby tells us they plan to expand their offerings to include local products.

“Yes actually we’re in process the right now of getting Bennett’s Bakery listed so we can have bread and sweet goods and there’s other opportunities in town that we will be working with as they arise'” notes Kirby.

Chris Kirby is no stranger to the city as both he and his wife were born in Thunder Bay. He says “It’s nice to be able to serve the community we grew up in and come back and work with family and friends and people that we know.”

Giant Tiger started with one store in Ottawa’s Byward Market in 1961 and has expanded to 260 stores in all provinces except British Columbia and Newfoundland and Labrador.

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
