As you come to terms with the new high in the price of fuel in the city, one gas pricing analyst believes we are into the “new normal” for the spring and summer.
Dan McTeague, of gasbuddy.com, does not believe the price will drop much lower than $1.35 a litre.
He thinks prices will settle again in the $1.35 to $1.45 a litre mark going into the summer.
McTeague says the current increase is due to retailers catching up to wholesale cost, but adds there is not much you can do ” when governments help themselves to an increasing amount of tax,” refering to the five cents a litre increase from the federal carbon tax.
The gas pricing analyst has slight words of comfort saying the price might go down a couple cents before the weekend.
Also, the Competition Bureau recently sent a letter to Kenora Liberal MP Bob Nault stating it found no evidence of wrong-doing when it comes to pricing, after interviewing 50 gas stations in Thunder Bay, Kenora, Fort Frances and Dryden.
