Friends of the Library Bookstore Reopening

A local bookstore will again open its’ doors with all proceeds going to a good cause.

The Southside Book Nook located in Victoriaville Centre will be reopening Tuesday in support of the Thunder Bay Public Library.

The store has been in this location for many years, and is stocked with books and audio visual material.

President of Friends of the Public Library Fran Duke says this is a day that has been looked forward to by everyone involved.

“We’re very excited, and all of our volunteers are very excited to get back to Victoriaville,” explains Duke. “Some of our volunteers have been with us for almost 34 years and they enjoy just being here and meeting the variety of people we have coming in through the door. We have long-term customers and many new people coming in as well.”

The bookstore is staffed entirely by volunteers who are members of the Friends of the Library group, all of whom will be vaccinated.

Duke goes on to explain more about the store and the relationship it has with Thunder Bay Public Library.

“Our sole purpose is to raise funds and advocate on behalf of the library,” says Duke. “All of the money we make goes to support library services and programs. We get donations from the public, and we also get any materials or books that the library no longer has a use for.”

Duke says some of their more popular genres include westerns, science fiction, self-help, and books about addiction.

Because of the pandemic, there will be a limited number of people allowed in the store at a time and all other COVID-19 protocols will be followed.

The store officially reopens Tuesday, Sept. 20.
