The President and CEO of the Forest Products Association of Canada believes the forestry sector came out of the federal budget in good shape.
Derek Nighbor believes there are a lot of positives for northwestern Ontario, including the Net-Zero Accelerator Fund.
“That’s really to help businesses lower their carbon footprint,” he points out. “That’s $5-billion over seven years to continue to modernize our mills and heavy industries.”
He also underlines a $54.8-million investment to help facilities make a move to use wood and wood waste to create bio-plastics and bio-fuels.
Nighbor is anxious to see more specifics about the government’s approach to what he calls a forest bio-economy.
Nighbor stresses the industry must continue to work with the government to protect the jobs we have and to try to create more.
