Forest fires impacting air quality in Thunder Bay area

Forest fires through the Prairies and northern Ontario are expected to impact air quality in the Thunder Bay area.

Environment Canada and the provincial government issued a Special Air Quality Statement for the Thunder Bay, Nipigon, and Kakabeka Falls areas around 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.

The smoke is expected to move into the district on Saturday afternoon, potentially remaining into Sunday morning.

As smoke levels increase, health risks increase as well.

Environment Canada is advising that you limit time outdoors.

You may experience mild and common symptoms such as eye, nose and throat irritation, headaches or a mild cough.
