The Ontario government is stressing the French language commissioner’s job is not being cut, but moved into the Ombudsman’s Office.
Premier Ford points out he wasn’t surprised by the backlash to this, adding the public is not being told the correct story.
“They have to be informed of the facts. And I think the media has a responsibility to tell the facts, and I think a lot of media outlets weren’t telling the facts.”
Ford is pointing the finger at the previous Liberal government when it comes to his government stopping construction of a French language university.
He adds it’s not feasable to have 10 colleges and universities teaching 300 French language classes when they aren’t filled.
“It’s totally irresponsible from the previous government, a couple of days before the last election, they promise this university, knowing darn well they didn’t have the money. That’s wrong… Kathleen Wynne was lying to the people.”
Attorney General Caroline Mulroney points out her government needs to relay it’s message better.
“Certainly did not abolish the work that’s been done, in fact, it’s going to continue. It is a priority of our government to make sure that French language rights of french language minority in Ontario continue to be protected.”
The Attorney General adds this move is part of the PC Party’s pledge to shrink the size of government.
