Some tough action taken by a northern Ontario First Nation community to fight the illegal drug trade.
The band council of Pic Mobert First Nation, located about half an hour east of Marathon, has voted to ban any member convicted of selling drugs in the community for at least five years.
For anyone who does not live there, and is convicted, will never be welcomed back.
The ban went into effect Canada Day.
The council drafted a letter, pointing out drug dealers are victimizing children, youth and Elders, and will start holding those convicted accountable.
The community will keep investing in wellness and healing programs.
