Morning….
I’m one of those parents who is a little worried about their child walking to school for the first time. For about 15 years our kids have been bused to school each day. Yes, we’re barely within the 1.6km range of the school, and no, it’s not that far. But. Like many parents, we’re on the ‘other side’ of 2 very busy streets. Crossing those is a challenge for most adults, nevermind an 11 year old who’s never had to do it solo. Im not sure what the reasoning for this change is but what makes it worse is that not only does it effect many on my street, but there are still 2 children who are much smaller still getting bused. The bus literally drives past my house!
Is it cost saving? Is it that they’re ‘too close’ and the money can be put in other areas? If so, which is it? Why? There has been little to no communication from Student Transportation Services and people are upset. I happen to be one of them. I hope someone steps up to help as there are many parents in worse situations than we are that could use the help, and i applaud those that have come forward with a petition to get some answers.
This time of the year isn’t so bad. I’m more worried about an icy January morning when its -40 with the wind and she’s bundled up to cross the street, or worse, waiting forever at the light for her chance to sprint across to safety.
What do you think? Over protective parent maybe?
