Firefighters Get Suicide Alertness Training

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue is offering a new level of training to its staff, Tuesday.

Firefighters will receive suicide alertness training, as part of a health and wellness initiative called safeTALK.

The department says safeTALK is taking the first step to address post-traumatic stress disorder, by giving emergency responders the tools they need to take care of their mental health.

It adds the region has high rates of suicide, and often, it’s first responders who attend to these deaths. (File photo)
