The Trillium Gift of Life Network is urging northerners to sign up to become an organ donor.
Only 32% of Ontario residents have formally registered their consent.
President and CEO Ronnie Gavsie says the low rate may be because of some misconceptions.
“Everyone has the potential to become a donor, regardless of their medical history. It is best not to rule yourself out.”
She notes one organ donor can save up to eight lives, and enhance as many as 75 more through tissue donations.
The oldest organ donor in Canada was over the age of 90.
