Federal $$ For Sandy Lake Water Plant

Some 2,600 residents of Sandy Lake First Nation will soon have safe, clean and reliable drinking water.

Kenora MP Bob Nault was in the community Wednesday to announce $9.2-million in funding to upgrade and expand the communities water treatment plant.

The project is in the design phase, with construction expected to begin in December of 2019.

The remote First Nation has been under a boil-water advisory since 2002, but thanks to interim repairs, the notice should be lifted next month.

Nault says the work will have a significant positive effect on the health and well-being of the community and its members and bring new economic opportunities.
