Failing To Demolish Building Results In Charge

The owner of the former Odd Fellows Hall is being charged with failing to comply with a order to demolish the structure.

Acting Deputy Fire Chief Eric Nordlund says the May Street building should have torn down by March 25th following the fire earlier that month.

“The owners responsibility is to comply with the order. They could have appealed the order which they didn’t,” notes Nordlund.

He says there has been talk the owner is in a legal battle with an insurance company but that is not the concern of the city fire service.

The fire official indicates there still could be a resolution to the dispute but until that happens, the charge stands.
