Explosion At Superior, Wisconsin Oil Refinery

The city of Superior, Wisconsin is in emergency mode as the result of a explosion at an oil refinery, which was the result of an asphalt spill.

It happened at around 10:30 local time this morning.

Michael Raimondi from KBJR TV in Duluth, Minnesota tells us there’s asphalt burning sending thick smoke into the air which can be seen as far away as Silver Bay and that 11 people have been hurt and homes have been evacuated.

He says there’s an evacuation zone throughout most of Superior and many have left with some staying in shelters which have opened up in the community.

Raimondi says children were also let out of school early because of the explosion.
