Supporters of the Alexander Henry are anticipating a good turnout for a fundraiser dinner.
The Lakehead Transportation Museum Society is raising money to tow the icebreaker to Thunder Bay with its “Bring Henry Home” campaign. It’s raised $1,125 of its $100,000 goal since late November.
The Society is hoping to raise that number with its Icebreaking Fundraiser Dinner at the Prince Arthur Hotel on Saturday.
Director Paul Morralee says they’re scrambling to keep up with demand for tickets, which he believes shows people feel strongly about bringing the ship here.
Morralee says the community is calling for more tourism and attractions in Thunder Bay, and he believes the Port Arthur-built museum ship could fill that role.
As of Tuesday afternoon, he estimated organizers have sold over 120 tickets, which he says should translate to over $3,000 towards the fundraiser.
Morralee says they’re closing ticket sales at 4 PM on Wednesday, adding tickets are available at the Prince Arthur Hotel, PC Medic, or Thunder Country Diving. (Photo supplied by Charlie Brown)
