Blanket Drive Helps International Students

Both Thunder Bay post-secondary schools are lending a hand to international students arriving for the fall semester.

Running until Friday The Hub Bazaar is having a blanket drive to support learners at Lakehead University and Confederation College, in collaboration with Assisting International Students Together (ASSIST).

The newly formed not-for-profit is dedicated to helping international students thrive while studying in the city.

“There will be drives for the Underground Gym and for the Regional Multicultural Youth Council, so the Hub Bazaar is located on the south side of the city and we will also have drives to be able to give blankets out to the neighbourhood,” explains Lori Paras, the owner of Hub Bazaar and Treasurer for ASSIST. “Anyone that wants to help can drop the blankets off at the Hub Bazaar, even on Saturday from 11 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. so feel free to come if you can’t make it during the week.

The organizers are asking for new or lightly used, freshly laundered blankets.

The Hub Bazaar is collecting monetary donations, including cash, cheques, and transfers.

In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
