Two witnesses and the son of the late Eulogio Gutierrez testifying on Day One of the Death Inquest.
The 59 year old died on November 27th 2017 from injuries sustained while working underground at a Marathon mining site.
Eugene Gutierrez described his father Eulogio (a.k.a. Bot) as a man who put his family and their needs first, and was looking forward to retirement which was just six months away.
The elder Gutierrez was an avid baker, gardener and was a one man IT department, who always found a way to solve a problem.
Up second was Fil Savoia, who was there to provide background into rules and regulations within the Ministry of Labour. Savoia is a former construction health and safety inspector as well as the provincial co-ordinator of the health and safety program.
The final witness was Ron Hauguth, a Ministry of Labour Inspector, who was on the ground investigation the events that led to the tragedy.
An autopsy done in March of 2018 confirmed the immediate cause of death to be multiple trauma.
