Chamber Has Questions About Economic Statement

No major complaints from the president of the Chamber of Commerce to the federal economic statement.

The government outlined how much the pandemic has cost so far and how much more further assistance to businesses and individuals will cost.

Charla Robinson is pleased the wage and rent subsidies will continue into the new year but notes there are some questions that still need answering.

“There’s a reference to a daycare plan but no details no timing, reference to some infrastructure program but we’re not too sure what kinds of recovery or stimulus will be coming,” notes Robinson.

The Chamber President is satisfied the government has provided a roadmap for where some of its programs are heading.

Robinson does admit though a nearly $400 billion deficit is “scary” but wonders “What was the other alternative? I think the cost would have been a lot greater if these programs weren’t in place and we saw massive business closures.”
