Doctor Hopes To Unify Police Services Board

It seems the Vice-Chair of Thunder Bay’s civillian Police Services Board is settling in well.

Emergency room physician Kyle Lansdell has been serving in the role since December and says he’s honoured to be at the table.

“I’m hoping that I can be a unifying voice on the Board,” Lansdell explains. “I think that in unity is the best place for us as a Board to effect the most change.”

The Vice-Chair notes he came to the Board already having completed cultural awareness training as part of his studies at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine.

“Looking back on the Treaties and some of the historical aspects that have led to our current realities, so that was a key part of my training. I spent a month living in one of the northern reserves and taking part in a lot of their cultural activities,” Lansdell notes.

He feels his experience as an emergency room doctor will help him contribute to the Board.

“With the opiate epidemic and working a lot in direct cooperation with the Thunder Bay Police Services in my role in emergency medicine,” Lansdell says, “I think I can bring some degree of insight with that.”
