From this morning’s “TODAY IN THE BAY”:
There’s this thing happening across not only the U.S, but also in Canada. It’s sort of like an AIRBNB – but if you have a swimming pool, you can actually rent out your pool to strangers – by the hour.
It’s very popular in Southern Ontario. Owners can charge anywhere from $50 up to $100 an hour for the use of their pool. There’s an app dedicated to this, called SWIMPLY.
BUT, imagine this happening in your backyard: you arrive home after work and find a family swimming in your pool / bbq’ng with the kids. You have no clue who they are! This happened in Montreal a few weeks ago. The family claimed they rented it on the SWIMPLY app for $35. They even said the owners home allowed loud music, smoking and use off the BBQ. The owner is now working with the SIMPLY app to find out how this happened, because she didn’t rent out her pool. ????????
QUESTION: would you ever rent out your pool to strangers? AND, what are the legalities behind safety etc. Hmmmmm!
