DIY OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES

With a string of warm days in the forecast here are some outdoor activities the entire family can enjoy.

Popsicle Paint

What You Need:
Chalk
Corn Starch
Water
Clothes Pins or Popsicle Sticks
Cheese Grater
Ice Cube Tray

What to do:
Great for outdoor use on sidewalks. Grate the chalk to a fine powder. For every 2 chalk sticks add 1 tsp of corn starch and water to a liquid paste consistency. Repeat for as many colours as desired. Set in ice cube tray and place in freezer for about an hour. Remove from freezer add your popsicle sticks ( or whatever you have at home). Place back in freezer for approximately 2 additional hours or until solid. Kids really enjoyed the popsicle paint but it did leave quite the mess. Have your hose on stand by for clean up.
Note: Popsicle Paint should not be consumed.

Bubble Paint

What You Need:
Blank Canvas (poster board or sidewalk)
Food Colouring
Bubbles (DIY Homemade Bubbles )
Bubble Wands (DIY Bubble Wands include plastic cups , plastic soft drink bottles, pipe cleaners, plastic funnel or drinking straws)

What To Do:
Combine the bubbles with food colouring and stir. We suggest multiple colours housed in small bowls. Using bubble wand start creating on your blank canvas. Heads up this can get pretty messy if done indoors!

AT HOME ACTIVITIES FOR A WARM DAY

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
