It is not a good day for 31 Westjet employees at Thunder Bay’s airport.
They have found out they are losing their jobs, permanently, as the airline tells us they are part of 3,333 employees to be let go, due to COVID-19.
Westjet says it is streamlining operations by contracting out office and management positions, however, this will not affect Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton or Toronto airports.
There will be one call centre based in Alberta, as well as reduced wheelchair services.
The company’s President, Ed Sims, adds this move will enable to company to keep about 10,000 employees on the payroll, as Westjet continues to work at remaining competitive during this pandemic.
