There’s an emphasis from Current River’s councillor the indoor turf facility council is voting on tonight is meant to be for everyone.
When speaking with Acadia Broadcasting’s John Ongaro this morning, Andrew Foulds noted it isn’t just for soccer.
“Baseball, it’s running, it’s people who want to walk, it’s potentially racquetball…. from my view this cannot, and let me be very clear, this cannot be an elite facility.”
Incidently, Thunder Bay’s tennis community tells us it’ll be at city hall before the vote showing support for the project.
He also pointed out taxpayers who don’t have children will benefit as kids will be kept busy, and not get into trouble.
The city councillor adds this could be one of the biggest decisions this council makes this term.
Foulds finishes by admitting he’s hearing from people who don’t want the indoor turf facility, as well as a parent who spoke to him this weekend.
“‘You know, Andrew, I don’t see many kids involved in sports that are involved in criminal activity’. And so if we can get more kids involved, healthy, active, positive role models, that’s where I’m going.”
However, the city councillor admits the price tag weighs heavily on his mind just before council’s vote to accept or reject the idea.
