Unifor is heading down the road of contract negotiations for forestry workers.
The first target is Resolute Forestry Products, with the union indicating they will be in contact with the company in the coming days to discuss the negotiating process and establish a bargaining schedule.
National President Jerry Dias says he’s eager to get forestry workers what they deserve and that’s a fair collective agreement that reflects their contributions to the industry.
The union says they have to make sure that the working conditions are not only attractive, but also good enough to retain workers.
Issues to be discussed include wages, benefits and pension plans.
Unifor says any deal will be used as a template for negotiations with other companies, including Domtar.
