Confederation Boss Hopes To Run In Boston Marathon

Kathleen Lynch is hopeful she’ll be able to run in the Boston Marathon.

The Confederation College President was slated to run in the annual event in 2015 but an injury during training sidelined those hopes.

“Boston is one marathon where you can’t get in any other way but having a qualifying time,” Lynch said, when talking about how she was able to get an invite. “I ran the Twin City Marathon in the fall of 2019 and qualified. The bonus was that I reached another age milestone, which gave me even more time in the bank.”

The President ran the race in Minneapolis/St.Paul in a time of 3:56:54. Officials with the Boston Athletic Association indicated that any valid qualifying time from as far back as September 15, 2018 may be used to gain entry into the 2021 event.

“You have to take two COVID tests that come out negative,” Lynch mentioned, when asked about measures for the in-person runners. “I’m assuming they’ll want those tests very close to the actual start of the race to be able to allow you to actually race that day.”

The annual event is usually run on the third Monday of April, but organizers remain hopeful that they can run a virtual and in-person event on Monday, October 11.

Participation is also border dependent as officials in both Canada and the United States have shut down non-essential travel up to May 21.

When it comes to getting vaccinated, Lynch had her first Moderna dose on April 28th and will get her second shot in August.
