Con College Golfer Reflects On National Experience

Making history for your post-secondary institution and having fun while you’re at it.

That’s how Confederation College Thunderhawk golfer Matthew Cho-Chu remembers the opportunity to represent his school at the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Associations (CCAA) National Championship October 12-16 hosted by St. Clair College in Windsor.

Cho-Chu was the first from the College to make it to the Canadian Championship.

The Mechanical Engineering student placed 19th with a score of +15 (228).

Inclement weather suspended the final round of play, which reduced the event to 54 holes.

“It was a significant accomplishment,” Cho-Chu told Acadia News Monday. “Just getting the chance to experience this is something you don’t see very often. I got to see other high level golfers from all over Canada, which was interesting.”

Cho-Chu has plans to pick up the clubs again in 2022.

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
