Cold Water & Ice Warning Issued

Ice safety is on the minds of officials at Thunder Bay Fire Rescue as they issue their seasonal warning.

The colder temperatures mean ice has started to form on area waterways and they note while ice conditions throughout the winter should always be considered dangerous, it’s especially a concern so early in the season since thick ice has not yet formed.

Authorities are urging parents to explain to children how dangerous and deadly falling into freezing cold water can be.

Deputy Fire Chief Greg Hankkio stresses “exposure to cold water can end your life in a matter of minutes.”
