Coffee Lover Opens New Shop

If you love coffee, you have another shop to consider in the north end.

Cory Furlonger just opened the Groggy Toad Coffee house on Cumberland Street, near Red River Road, and tells us his love for coffee drove him open the door, with a particular goal.

“I don’t view the other local coffee shops as competition, I think we’re working for the same goal. If anything I want people to get away from the larger corporations and support the local businesses.”

The Thunder Bay native adds he’s noticed how many people spend time in the waterfront area.

He adds he’s spent the last few years trying different locations around town.

“We came upon this, we saw that it used to be a coffee shop, so, there were a lot of building code things that were already done, that sort of saved us a lot of money in the long run, and liked the location.”

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
