Cleaning Up!

Thankfully the winter finally seems to be over. I’m not being unrealistic in thinking that we may just get another dumping of snow before the warmer weather really hits and sticks around, but I don’t think we’re in for an extended cold snap or snow stay (I am furiously knocking on wood as I type this). Some great initiatives are happening around the city starting this week to help keep yards and streets clean. First up it’s leaf and yard waste clean up time starting Tuesday (tomorrow) and running until the 24th. If you’re putting yard waste out, remember to use the brown paper bags, not plastic, and that the city doesn’t take grass clippings. The waste gets taken to the dump and put on the big compost pile which helps to service the flowerbeds and gardens that the city owns. If you have questions about the pick up, you can call the city at 625-2195.

Secondly, on Thursday night (May 16th) starting at City Hall at 5, there is a clean up happening for the streets of the South Core. The Thunder Bay Crime Prevention Council has organized the clean up in the hopes of not only make the streets look better, but fostering some new connections. A number of other organizations are involved, including: EcoSuperior, StandUp4CleanUp, The John Howard Society, Shelter House, Clean, Green & Beautiful Thunder Bay and Evergreen: A United Neighourhood. There will be clean up supplies provided at the beginning of the clean up and refreshments provided at the end! It would be a great time to get involved and get the kids involved as well!

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
