The news that a new storage company may be moving into the Northwood Mall area had me reminiscing about Zellers today. I would love to hit up The Skillet for some fries and gravy right now. A lot of you took to the Matt Carr Repair Talk and Text Line to talk about other classic T-Bay shops etc. you miss. Here’s some of the messages to get your memory going.

Deb – Wheelies.
Deb, what a classic place! So many of my friends got hurt there but it was well worth it!

Frank – Northwood Mall, eh ??? Black Squirrel and Roby’s hamburger nips. Also, Wheelies was originally Saints. Dig deep in the memory when Intercity Mall was a strip mall. Consumers Distributing where you filled out your own order. Kresge’s creaky wooden floor that you could feel move under your feet with the lunch counter that gave you the metal milkshake container with your milkshake.
Oh my gosh. Roby’s! Classic, Frank! Consumers Distributing was an absolute favourite of mine. I loved perusing the catalogues for toys. So many WWF LJN wrestling figures and He-Men!

Lori – The It Store.
The It Store was so cool, Lori! So many neat gadgets etc. A real precursor to San Francisco and Spenser’s. Some of the greeting cards I saw there as a kid made me blush!

Doris – I would bring my son to Science North that was located in the upper level of Victoriaville Mall. Loved all their educational displays.Victoriaville is such a nice mall, Doris! I loved the phone store there. I desperately wanted a Garfield phone!

Heather – Eaton’s was the best store ever. And Birds Restaurant on Court St across from Eatons. They had little jukeboxes in every booth and the best fries … And Scollie’s made THE BEST CREAMSICLES.
Faye – How about Scollie’s Ice Cream? The best chocolate ice cream EVER!
Heather and Faye, I was a HUGE Scollie’s fan. Went to the Walsh street locale as a kid with my fam. Creamix needs to make a comeback STAT!Brian – I miss Golden Castle Games ! Elephant & Castle and Electronic Encounters at Intercity.
I’m with you, Bri! Elephant & Castle was such a classic establishment. As was the Golden Griddle (I think it was across the way?)

Dawn Tee – Woolworths in the mini strip mall where the Sears building it at the mall. Dawn, that’s the first place I ever remember seeing a photo booth!
Mike K – Flip a Top (on Memorial) had some good pop.
Alex – Bamboo restaurant, Trifon’s Pizza and Busy B sub shop.
Lee-Anne – Bamboo Gardens had the best fries and gravy.
John – Venice grill on Simpson. Give me the good old days back remember the trestle between FW and PA? The circus when you had to cross the bridge to get to the rides. Meet me at the bottle.
Lyle – I remember when we were in high school, Selkirk high, when we used to avoid class, we used to hang out at Lakehead Lunch on Syndicate Ave. right across from the train station. At any given time you could find students “studying” 🙂 lol
So many great memories! What do you miss? Let me know in the comments! I’d like to go back to Bargain Harold’s or Mike’s Milk!
