Poppy boxes are set up at businesses across the city, as Royal Canadian Legions enter the last leg of their poppy campaigns.
The first campaign was held at the Prince Arthur Hotel in Thunder Bay in 1921.
Poppy Chairman for the Port Arthur Legion Branch, Sharon Scott, says the campaign is a symbol honouring Canada’s war dead, and supports local programs and organizations that provide assistance to area veterans and their dependents.
Scott says her branch is hoping to exceed fundraising numbers for last year – $23,000 was collected. (Photo: Caryn Ceolin)
