City turns sod on indoor turf facility

Thunder Bay’s new indoor turf facility is closer to reality.

A ground-breaking ceremony took place Thursday.

The multi-purpose facility will be located next to the Thunder Bay Community Auditorium.

Construction will begin this summer with completion by the fall of 2026.

When complete, the indoor field will have seating for 500, a concession area, dressing rooms, and will be used for sports like soccer, football, baseball, cricket, lacrosse and ultimate frisbee.

The indoor field is expected to cost about $32.65 million.
