City Transit To Receive $3.2 million

Thunder Bay Transit is receiving almost $3.2-million in government funding.

Kinga Surma is Ontario’s Associate Transport Minister and tells us that is our share of $660-million to spread around Ontario for transit. It is part of the federal/provincial Safe Restart Agreement.

“The funding is to go to safety measures so that people can feel safe riding public transit and then of course to address the operational deficit,” adds Surma.

She indicates after talking to municipalities across the province it was determined much of the money would go towards safety measures to protect transit users from COVID-19.

The government minister adds Thunder Bay will start to see the money in September.
